A Pelican in her Piety is an ancient heraldic device symbolizing self-sacrifice. The pelican is tearing at her own breast to feed her young with her blood. In the SCA, "Pelican" refers to a member of the Order of the Pelican. Entry into the Order is awarded to those who perform unrelenting service to their Kingdom and the SCA, along with their consistent display of the virtues of Grace, Courtesy and Chivalric Demeanour. Both our Pelican medallion and pin are cast solid and are very durable. The Pelican pin features a strong modern pinback made of nickel. Both are about 2 inches (50 mm) in diameter. |
